Composition VIII (1923)
After World War I broke out, Kandinsky moved back to Moscow, but he ultimately proved no longer capable of feeling at home there. In 1921 he returned to Germany and was appointed as a lecturer at the Bauhaus academy in Weimar. In the years that followed, which he described as the time of lyrical geometrism, he was very productive. The painting Composition VIII is viewed as a highlight of this period and is strongly based on the vision that, three years later, he described as 'Punkt und Linie zu Fläche'.
